Danny Rubin has worked as a dedicated social/environmental activist since 1968. Currently, he is a third-year University of Victoria Masters student (Sociology) specializing in social statistics, control theory and environmental sociology.
As the Secretary of BC Pathways, Danny has been deeply involved with encouraging the reasonable and sensible use of BC?s magnificent forests.
Additionally, he holds an Associate Degree in Chemistry and has worked in BC?s forest industry. ?I consider it to be an honour and privilege to be the PEJ News Earth Editor, and hope that the readers will find my contributions genuinely informative and environmentally useful.?

GLBTQ Editor, Rick Barnes (Gay-Bisexual-Lesbian-Transexual-Queer Editor)

Rick Barnes has been a community activist for 25 years. In 1981, he started the first gay group in the interior of BC in Williams Lake. Rick has been a staff representative with the BCGEU, a union organizer, labour council president, investagator for employment standards and human rights activist.
In 1998, Rick moved to Vancouver from the interior to work with then MLA Tim Stevenson, and was instrumental in establishing an additional Health Benefit for People Living With HIV/AIDS, a first in North America. In 2000, Rick went to work for BC Persons With AIDS Society in Communications and moved to a similar position at AIDS Vancouver in 2001. Today Rick after a year at AIDS Vancouver Island as the coordinator for Gay Men's Community Development has moved back to the Okanagan.
Rick works with a variety of NGO's on communications and community development projects and has remained on the board of the Victoria AIDS Resource and Community Services Society. Rick's interests include human rights, HIV/AIDS, social justice issues including housing, poverty and bringing an end to the drug war!

The Justice Editor covers a wide variety of issues such as human rights, poverty, the law, policing, courts, global inequities, international development, fair trade and many other justice issues.
Pablo Ouziel has international experience in Business Development and Corporate Communications having worked from London and New York, developing communications strategies for large multinational corporations. After a change in perspective he set up together with his wife Can Poeti SL, a branding communications company which focuses on supporting projects around the globe in the areas of sustainability, ecology and health. Pablo sits on the Board of Directors of Mas Claperol, the oldest organic dairy farm in Catalunya, Spain and is an active member of the People Media Project, a
global media platform that focuses on the promotion of an informative and balanced understanding of global issues, conflicts and concerns.
Pablo Ouziel is an activist and a free lance writer who lives in the countryside near Barcelona, Spain. His work also appears in other progressive media including Znet, Palestine Chronicle, Thomas Paine¹s Corner, Atlantic Free Press and Newsdaily Canada.

Dr. Michael Wallace (PhD Michigan) is a Professor of Political Science. He is a leading scholar in the study of (a) international conflict, especially concerning the relationships between arms and conflict as seen in conventional and unconventional arms proliferation and in arms races; and (b) decision making in international crises. He teaches in these areas at the graduate and undergraduate level.
Wallace is studying the potential for arms races in the Asia Pacific and the development of more effective international peacekeeping mechanisms, particularly those involving naval forces. He is a member of the Nuclear Experts Group of the Council for Security and Cooperation in the Asia - Pacific. His most recent book is Naval Arms Competition in East Asia (with Charles A. Meconis).

Common Security Correspondent, Joan Russow

For over 40 years, Joan Russow has promoted human rights, social justice, the prevention of war and conflict, and protecting the environment. Since Olaf Palme introduced the concept of common security in 1981? which extended "security" to encompass peace, environment, social justice and human rights, she has been promoting common security and examining the complexity and interdependence of these issues.
She has lectured widely on international issues, participated in international forums and conferences, and applied international principles to national and local issues. She is the author of the Charter of Obligations- 350 pages of international obligations incurred through treaties, covenants and conventions, international commitments made through UN Conference Action plans, and expectations created through UN General Assembly resolutions. Russow is also a former Leader of the Green Party of Canada (she has since left the Greens).

Peace, Earth & Justice Week
April 22 to May 1
Earth Day to May Day
With dozens of calendar activities in April, organized by scores of local agencies throughout Victoria and the Islands, what has been known as the Earth Week is the largest and most diverse set of Earth Day events in Canada, including environmental, peace, cultural and humanitarian activities.
In its 15 years, the Week has included community clean-ups, media and awareness campaigns, direct action, conferences and public forums, workshops, tree plantings, nature tours, fairs and festivals, ceremonies, launches, legislation, community walks, concerts, arts and crafts exhibitions.
